I Bought A Porsche Boxster S 3.2 986

Porsche Boxster S 986

After much deliberation and searching, I have finally acquired a 2000 registered Porsche Boxster S. It’s the 3.2 flat 6 M96 engine, mated to a tiptronic S gearbox. If truth be told, I really wanted a manual transmission but this particular car came up at such a bargain price, I simply couldn’t refuse. After a few weeks of ownership, I can categorically say that the Tiptronic S automatic transmission works really well and is a pleasure to use. It sloshes through the gears nicely enough when tootling around the town and then responds extremely well when pushed into manual mode for a more spirited driving experience.

I’ve never owned a Porsche before, this is my first foray into the world of Stuttgart derived motoring and I have to say, it’s impressive. You have to remember that the Boxster is now touching 25 years old in some cases, my particular car is 22 years old at the time of writing and it looks and drives every bit as good as it did when it rolled off the production line in 2000.

With the roof down, it’s a stunning experience and the engine sounds absolutely superb when pushing on. If you’ve never driven a mid engined sports car before, it can be a little strange at first as all of the engine sound is right behind you and In your ears.

I’ve got plenty of plans for the 986 but I have to confess, this brief foray into Porsche ownership has only heightened my desire for a 911. It’s been a life long dream of mine to own a 911… who knows what the future holds. Stay tuned for further Porsche related updates!
